A Family-of-Christ Ministry

ICHTHYSroe is our participation in Jesus’ ministry for building up His family–as we respond to His command to be the ones to feed His people {Matt 14:14-20} and do more than even He did in His earthly ministry.  With this in mind, we are a family ministry that serves children of God, through a variety of offerings including but not exclusive to Biblical education and member care, as we grow together–as individuals in each stage of development as well as collectively throughout the family cycle.

Biblical counseling services are provided on a non-profit basis for those who need God’s counsel regardless of whatever they can afford {Acts 20:27-35}.  This includes member care for international workers/families, especially the third culture kids who defy the preconceived notions of cultural identity that have been placed upon them.  We do this without secular/worldly constraints so that your faith in Jesus is developed as a relationship (not just a resource).

KEY DIFFERENTIATORS

Who are Biblical counselors?

We are more than your counselors—we are your brothers/sisters-in-Christ who love you with His love. We are equipped at the master’s and doctoral levels (at both theology-grounded seminary and research-driven university programs) to apply practical theology through clinical evidence-based psychotherapeutic methods. We are motivated to sacrifice our own resources and pay out-of-pocket on your behalf when your family, church, and even care team fails you. We are called to be genuine reminders of God the Father’s love for you, humble servant-leaders following God the Son to walk alongside you, and reliable advocates praying for God the Spirit to empower you. Would you like us to know you as we come to know God together? {Ephesians 3:14-21; 1 Kings 3:7-9; 1 Peter 2:9-12}

What is wrong?

The world is broken for all to see, yet we are in a spiritual war that most cannot see; resulting in despair, fear, anxiousness, grief, pain, and temptation. But while the list is long, nothing is too complicated or unfamiliar to our Creator. Our goal should not be to simply manage or deal with the symptoms of depression, trauma, anxiety, bereavement, abuse, and addiction. Are you tired of confining yourself to the negative limitations of your condition?

What is right!

here is beauty in God’s story and that is what we seek to uncover. By bringing the whole counsel of God to bear on every burden, we can be reconciled with our Heavenly Father and be realigned to His purpose for us. Our goal is to have a broader perspective, despite how you may be suffering today, as well as have hope for the future by growing deeper in the things that truly matter. Are you ready to leave the safety of denial/avoidance for the risky but infinitely positive possibilities that God offers by faith? {Hebrews 4:13-16; Acts 20:27-32; Psalm 139:24-40}

Whenever you need…

Time is of the essence—no matter the time of day or night. There is no stage of personal development or part of the family lifecycle that we are not called to grow: childhood, adolescence, adulthood, marriage, parenting, and elder-care. Schedule counseling sessions at any time that you need, in all seasons of life. If you are debating whether you are ready to receive help yet, then be encouraged that it is never too soon to be comforted and never too late to repent. Would you like to answer God’s call today? {Proverbs 17:17; 1 Peter 5:6-8; Philippians 1:3-6}

Wherever you live.

We may feel isolated—particularly during a pandemic. But the whole earth is filled with God’s glory, and we always exist Coram Deo (in His presence). We don’t have to travel far to seek refuge in Him—all we have to do is turn toward Him—He is right there. As His ambassadors, we meet in the middle of storms or at the bottom of pits via Facetime, Google Meet, Skype, or Zoom. Would you like us to meet you where you are? {Isaiah 6:2; Psalm 46:1-3; Revelation 21:1}

Why Biblical counsel?

People have been broken both spiritually and physically for thousands of years. In the last century and a half, with the church focused on the former but not the latter, people had to look for help from other places. Sadly, there are now 400+ secular psychotherapies that compete with one another—downplaying our spiritual identities at best, and disavowing our failing relationships with God at worst. Biblical counseling maintains the highest value on human life—regardless of the things that we have gone through, whether because of others or our own body/brain limitations (i.e., feeling helpless or tempted to do what we shouldn’t). Would you like us to care for you both spiritually and physically? {Jeremiah 23:23-29; Ephesians 4:17-25; 1 John 4:11-12}

How we counsel:

Our clinical approach is guided by the Biblical method of humbly engaging and lovingly processing together so that we can pray to our God who sustains, heals, and saves us. Treatment requires assuming neither that we know you before you share your struggles, nor that your experience is the same as that for anyone else. (Confidentiality is assured except for instances of potential/actual harm to self or others.) Only in fully understanding your personal challenges and relational conflicts can Biblical truth be carefully applied through evidence-based methods made possible by common grace. Then, we joyfully encourage good efforts, compassionately share in hard burdens, and gently restore you from bad decisions. By equally addressing motivation, emotion, cognition, and volition, your growth is nurtured as an essential part of God’s overarching story. Would you like to explore your issues through a careful step-by-step process that shows your story from different angles? * The process for groups is slightly nuanced. Speak with an ICHTHYSroe Groups Supervisor for more information specific to our experiential process, psychoeducation, or support groups. {2 Corinthians 1:3-5; Colossians 4:2-6; 1 Peter 4:9-11}

“ICHTHYS” is the greek word for fish. “roe” is fish eggs.

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.” {John 21:17}

Our ICHTHYSroe community loves Jesus by serving His people. Sometimes this is through taking a leadership role in conducting workshops.  Sometimes it’s simply caring for others in a supporting role.  And sometimes it’s about connecting those who can help (Biblical counselors) with those who need help (counselees).  But it’s always about nurturing Hope where it’s difficult to expect, giving the Love that we have been given first, expressing the Joy that overflows from being reconciled with God, and bringing the Gospel of Peace that surpasses our limited understanding. by doing this, we come together for His purpose, and are therefore supplied by His power for His victory in the family and home setting.

OUR PEOPLE

We come from diverse fields (e.g., counseling, speech/language pathology, social work).  We were individually created to support God’s children as He grows them to reach full potential. God brought us together so we can support each other to live out His purpose for us. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works” {Eph 2:10}.

OUR COMMUNITY

We exemplify the body of Christ with members, partners, and sponsors that do not give up on meeting one another.  We not only make every effort to get along with one another when the heat gets oppressive but actually care even more.  Believing in God and one another as extensions of Him fosters compassion satisfaction and fights again compassion fatigue.

OUR GRANTS

Our ICHTHYSroe Donor Advised Fund (DAF) was established as an investment vehicle to share–what God has blessed us with–with His other family ministries.  Three of our flagship programs are the: (1) “James 1:5 learning to serve” grant {James 1:5}); (2) “Deuteronomy 529 children” grant. {Deuteronomy 5:29}); and (3) “Exodus on eagles’ wings” grant. {Exodus 19:4})

From the ICHTHYSroe Family:

may the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all… {2 Corinthians 13}

“now to God who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! amen.” {Ephesians 3:20-21}
