Non-profit does not mean low-quality service of little value. On the contrary, our real costs are high. The service we provide must be of the highest quality because our counselees are royal children of God. Our vision is to provide the best care possible—regardless of one’s ability to pay in absolute terms—because our God has absolutely paid for it all already through three sources:
Our staff and volunteers contribute high value, high ``opportunity cost`` time—not only talking the talk, but also walking the walk—in a prime example of sharing what God has given us in terms of time, talent, and treasure so that all would benefit for the common good.
Our members (staff, volunteers, and those who have benefited directly/indirectly from member care in the past) allocate tithes and offerings while partners (individuals and organizations) dedicate sponsorships as they would to any Christian worker on the front lines of evangelism and social justice.
Our fee-for-service clients choose to be served by a provider who directs 100% of the proceeds to provide grants for those who are less fortunate—whether those in their own city or in other low-income countries.
With these funds, ICHTHYSroe is able to prudently offer an elegant solution that is suited to every counselee in need: three non-profit models that offer counselees more flexibility and control than would otherwise be possible:
Allocate a portion of your tithe to the ministry that is serving you. The amount would be based on both how much God provides to you in terms of your household income, as well as how much He provides to you in terms of your desire to give to those who are serving you so that they can continue to serve you and others like you.
Our prayer is that He blesses you according to the riches of His glory so that you can share more with those who have sown into your ability to be fruitful.
Example 1: Low income family paid $0 for ~50 sessions (elderly individual sessons and caregiver individual sessions).
Example 2: High income single mother committed 10% tithe for ~80 sessions (spouse/parent individual sessions + two child individual sessions + family sessions).
Example 3: High income family paid 5% tithe for ongoing sessions as needed (two spouse individual sessions + marriage counseling).
SCHEDULE INFORMATIONAL SESSIONGive what you can and have the rest given by your pre-existing community. Similar to those who pay into an insurance plan every month, and therefore receive coverage in times of hardship, you will be provided funds to care for your wellbeing when you need from your community. This could be your church that you have been tithing into. This could be your household that shares all costs of living. This could be your network of friends who collectively care about your wellbeing.
Our hope is that we will be able to build a care team for you, comprising people who can root for your therapeutic gains and hold you accountable for your continued progress.

Example 4: Middle income family paid 60% of cost with church covering 20% of costs and brother-in-Christ covering 20% for 3 months (one spouse/parent individual + marriage counseling + three child individual sessions).
Pay for the services that you receive on a session by session basis, depending on the rate of your most qualified professionals in your local market.
At the lower end (e.g., Tanzania), this may be as low as 25000 tsh. In the middle (e.g., Italy), this may be 150 euros. At the highest end (e.g., New York, Singapore), this may be as high as $250.
Be assured that you will be interviewed, assessed, and guided to the highest standards of ethical care—whether that is according to the Holy Bible, Christian Counselors (proxied by the American Association of Christian Counselors' Code of Ethics), or secular expectations (proxied by the American Psychiatric Association's latest Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders `{`DSM-5-TR`}` and the American Counseling Association's Code of Conduct).
Example 5: High income family paid $250 a session.

“Seeing a psychotherapist generally costs around $100 per session, with rates increasing among those who hold higher qualifications. Depending on your location, you may gain access to an hour of talk therapy for as little as $60 — with rates reaching as high as $300 in large cities.”

“Therapy generally ranges from $65 per hour to $250 or more. In most areas of the country, a person can expect to pay $100-$200 per session.
Therapy costs have an extremely wide range. I know clinics that charge as little at $5 per session and others that charge $300 per session.”

“According to therapist directory GoodTherapy.org, the average cost of an hour-long therapy appointment can range from $65 per hour to $250 (or even more). The pricing usually depends on the therapist level of training, their years of experience, and location — therapy is pricier in more expensive cities. In most parts of the country, people seeking therapy expect to pay $100 to $200 per session.”

“Typically, the average cost of therapy [without insurance] is somewhere between $100 and $250 [per session],” according to Ashley McGirt, MSW, therapist, author, and the founder of WA Therapy Fund Foundation.

“What does this mean for biblical counselors in private practice? What’s the impact of not accepting insurance? We’re expensive. There’s no way around it. Sessions with us cost a lot—particularly in expensive urban centers where the cost of living and doing business is high. The price of a session is usually somewhere between $150 and $200 for 50 minutes“

“Before the days of mental health advocates and mental health awareness campaigns, visiting a therapist in any capacity was considered a luxury that most people couldn’t afford. Today’s out-of-pocket therapy costs are affordable for most working families and range from $65.00 – $200.00 per session.
“When you consider the costs of going through life in a fog and how much therapy used to cost, at least in this range a larger segment of the US population can be served.
“Generally, the cost of therapy can differ by the mental illness that is in consideration. … Overall, the cost of therapy appears to be relatively high. However, compared to the benefits that patients stand to gain, it’s fully cost-effective.“

“… clients who lack health insurance or who have policies with a deductible so high it makes the cost of using health insurance too difficult. So when you can’t afford current market rates for therapy in NYC (often $200-$375 per session)…”

“In the San Francisco Bay Area, couples therapy ranges from $120 per therapy hour to $250 per therapy hour.”
goodtherapy.org/blog/faq/how-much-does-couples-therapy-cost
“Here in Denver, marriage counseling costs between $150 and $300 for a 90-minute session. In bigger cities like New York or San Francisco, couples counseling sessions can cost between 50 and 100% more than here.
“Insurance companies generally only cover couples counseling when it’s deemed as a medical necessity. Unless one spouse is suffering from a diagnosable mental disorder, like generalized anxiety disorder or bipolar disorder, most insurance plans won’t contribute towards your couples counseling.
“Even if insurance coverage is available, there are some significant downsides to paying for therapy through insurance. Most insurance companies require therapists to provide a diagnosis, which ends up on your permanent health record. Insurance companies also severely limit which therapists and session types are covered, so you may not have access to your preferred therapist.”
windingpathcounseling.com/blog/how-much-does-couples-counseling-cost
“The price of couples counseling varies by state and generally will cost more in larger, more populated cities where the cost of living is higher. For example, marriage counseling in New York City costs on average $150-$250+ for a one-hour session.
“Couples counseling can be expensive because couples therapists are highly educated and often have a specialization in couples therapy. In other words, they have done additional training following the completion of their degree. Also, couples therapy is usually more expensive than individual therapy because there are two people receiving treatment. Both partners will benefit and grow from the work done as a couple.“

Is it possible to do a trial run with one of the models and then switch to another?
Yes! Absolutely. We aim to be as flexible as you need. Many of our clients upgrade to member status after a period of getting to know their counselor or garner support from their church/family/friends before being able to commit.
My church doesn't do partnerships and my family/friends can't afford to help. What then?
If your church does not wish to commit to a long-term partnership, they can still contribute a pre-set amount from their benevolence fund as a one-time token of investment. The most important thing is to establish a relationship with your spiritual leaders and give them the opportunity to invest in your care.
I thought this was a ministry. How can you charge your counselees?
Not only is financial contribution a sign of commitment (``putting your money where your mouth is``), we believe that it's important for each counselee to invest in themselves as much as others do. Also, 100% of proceeds are dedicated to serving other less privileged counselees (including ongoing training to ensure the highest quality of care).
How do you determine the overall cost for the community-funded model?
We will work with you on determining the best benchmark. However, rates are typically priced at the high end of the range because our staff are highly qualified and earn top rates in their for-profit work (although often choosing to make less than many of our clients while still caring for their families), and this allows us to sacrifice more for those in the most challenging economic environments. In other words, by not sacrificing for those in high-income countries, our high-income country staff can sacrifice for those in low-income countries. If you would like a referral to a for-profit organization with lower costs or community center with lower costs, we'd be happy to provide one.
Do you have a sliding scale for fee-for-service clients?
While emergency grants are provided in special circumstances, we hope any fee-for-service client who is going through a rough patch would accept our invitation to become a member—whereupon he/she would only pay what God provides to him/her—if finances are currently an issue. In order to be sustainable and provide the highest quality of care for the lowest cost possible, we have to reserve/prioritize our scarce funds for member subsidies.
